8 Things I'm Going To Do After Lockdown

Everyone and their pet are thinking about what they'll do and where they'll go when lockdown is over and I am no exception. I'm an ambivert. I love being at home but I'm really starting to miss seeing my friends, family, going shopping without worry and the freedom to go places just because.

At the beginning of the year, I wrote a post about 12 things I wanted to do this year and that list included going to some places I've had on my bucket list and though lockdown might have postponed some of those ideas, I still plan on ticking them off before the end of the year.

But as well as my original list of things to do, lockdown has me appreciating things that I haven't done in a while, which is why I've made a new list of things I'd love to do when lockdown is over and things are a little safer.

See my parents and siblings and hug them all.

Top on most people's list of thing they'll do after lockdown is probably the same for everyone. I really miss seeing my family, friends and being able to even be near them. When lockdown is lifted and it's safe to, I'm going to my parent's house and I want to have the biggest dinner with them. We're a big fan of barbecues and my mum loves having people over so we'll probably have a big barbecue with everyone and it'll be amazing.

Go to the beach.

Being stuck in lockdown really has me missing some of my favourite places on earth. I love being by the sea and I've always said that if I had to live anywhere else in England and I didn't care about distance, I'd live somewhere along the coast. As well as taking a long over-due trip to the beach to feel sand between my toes and stand in freezing cold water, I want to go to the beach more often. I love being there and rain or shine, I'm always happy when I'm there. I don't appreciate that it's as close as it is enough.

Appreciate a casual shopping trip alone.

I love going out and shopping on my own. Sometimes, I used to go just because I wanted to be out for a bit. I might not buy anything but a coffee at Starbucks or Costa but I loved it. I can't wait to be able to go out and have a proper casual shopping trip on my own.

Sit at a restaurant and eat.

Who else misses restaurants? I absolutely love going out to a restaurant and sitting in. A takeaway is great and all that but the experience of eating out is so much better.

Go for nature walks.

Throughout lockdown, I've taken a handful of walks around public pathways and found some of the prettiest places near where we live. It's been so nice to go out and enjoy nature. I used to do it a lot anyway and I've enjoyed doing that again. I'd love to keep it up when lockdown is over.

Have a night out (or in) with my friends.

Once a month or so, my friends and I would have dinner, a night out or a night in to just talk, be silly, forget about work and have fun. I miss having these nights and they're something I've always looked forward to. I can't wait to be able to do this again when things start returning to normal!

Renew my passport and ID and book a flight to go and see my family in Portugal.

I am so desperate to see my family in Portugal. I haven't been there for too long and missing the opportunity to renew my ID and passport and book a flight over like I planned to this year really upset me. My appointment to renew everything got cancelled and now I'm waiting for the Portuguese consulate to open again so I can finally renew everything and go. Lockdown made me realise I need to visit my family over there more often.

Get new glasses

Another appointment I had cancelled was a check-up at my opticians. I'm now well overdue glasses and I think I'm fine for now but I'm really looking forward to getting some new ones. I want some different frames now and I always get excited about buying new glasses.
My frames ended up breaking last week (11th June 2020) and I had to get an emergency appointment to get some new ones. I've got my new frames coming in the next few days and very happy about it!

Visit my favourite garden centres and buy some new house plants.

Another thing I miss doing and I hope I'm in the new house to do this, is to visit a garden centre with my mum. We love buying plants together since I bought a new house and I'm so excited to do up our next garden. My mum and I would go to Crews Hill in Enfield and just garden centre hop, sit in a café halfway through the day and consider which plants we wanted to go back and get. I really miss doing that and I can't wait to be able to go and do that again.

It's going to be a while before we're back to normal. Before the plastic sheets between the customer and staff member can get taken down or before you can walk past someone on the same side of the street or before we can even eat lunch in a group and sitting next to our colleagues. Gosh, I think I might bring the biggest cake into work when we're allowed to do that again...

There's so much to look forward to when lockdown is over and I feel like I'm going to appreciate things a little more. What about you? What are you looking forward to when lockdown is officially over and we can start being a little more normal again?
