Papergang Unboxing | January 2020

Time for another Papergang box and this month's box was designed by Siobhan O'Dwyer who has featured the most gorgeous and retro floral print for the box. The best and worst thing about the anticipation for one of these boxes is seeing the advertised previews on Instagram stories. The minute they come along I try to skip it but find myself going back because I really want to see what to expect in the box for the month ahead! I secretly love the spoilers and this month was no exception.

A retro floral postbox sized cardboard box.
At first look, I wasn't a fan of the floral design as it's not really my style. I don't really like the retro colour scheme, particularly the orange which reminds me of that teal and orange preset you see on Instagram. I think it looks amazing with the right content and if you know how to use it but it just isn't for me. I did also think that this box looked a little on the light side for this month. I feel like I'm being a little rude right now but it's my honest opinion and I hoped to find more in here than I saw in the previews.

In January 2020's Papergang Box:

Not that I don't love paper stationery, but it's probably why I thought it looked on the light side. I'm not sure how I feel about all the pieces in the box either - I really love some of them but I'm also not sure on others. Sorry!

Floral Fabric Notebook

A blue fabric notebook with colourful wildflowers all over and notes written in gold foiling and capital letters in the centre.
The notebook is definitely lovely. Despite not being a fan of the floral design, it is growing on me and I enjoy a notebook with a fabric covering which makes it feel higher quality. It's actually quite thick too and I can imagine a great book to pop in your bag thanks to its flexible cover.

Birthday Card

A small birthday card with happy birthday in gold foiling and a flowers on a light blue background.
The birthday card this month is so pretty. I have a stash of cards for various special occasions, so I'm always happy to add a birthday card like this into the mix. I've already used one from a previous Papergang box, so I know this will come in handy in the future.

Floral List Pad

A small list pad with today on the top and a blue border. The background has a faded retro floral design towards the bottom.
In my previous Papergang boxes, I've received a good amount of list pads so it's nice to get one that is a little different both in design and size. This month we have an A5 list pad which I feel is so much more effective than some of the previous ones in notebooks and pads. I like the size which is easy to carry around and I feel like it's really purposeful. It's a thumbs up from me for this.

Triangle Paperclips

A small matchbox sized box with triangle paperclips written in the front in white.
Paperclips in all shapes and sizes are fun and as a teacher, something I use quite a lot actually so when I opened this little box to find some lovely gold triangle paperclips, I was quite pleased. I tested a them out too and they have fantastic holding power. The shape makes it look keeping papers together classy! The only issue I did have with them was that maybe they were too tough? It was just a little difficult to slip over papers easily.

Month Postcard and Retro Landscape Print

A blank blue month postcard.
Every month, Papergang subscribers are given a lovely little monthly postcard to cover the month ahead. I'm still not 100% what to do with these but luckily because they're blank, I can use them as and when I think of how to. I had the idea of putting it on my noticeboard but I'm not sure I like that too much. Maybe a little holder to pop them on my desk? If you have any ideas, please share!

This month, I received my first Papergang print and as beautiful as it is, it's not my style really. I didn't really like it because it didn't stand out to me as much as I'd like a print too. I would have expected an inspiring quote over this or something. It's no doubt that it's a beautiful image, but maybe I'll just use it for the background of photos when I need it. I'm not too sure.

A print, paperclip box and a month postcard.
Overall, I would have to say that as lovely as some of the things in this box are, I can't help but feel underwhelmed with this month. I really don't know why, but it just didn't do it for me as much as I wanted. I think my favourite item is the birthday card and the paperclips, to be honest.

Next month's box hint looks lots of fun! There are some naughty words as well as inspirational phrases on the next one and a neutral but somewhat nautical colour palette. I'm really intrigued and can't wait to see what it brings. I hope to see a pin and I'd love to see some letter writing stationery in soon too.

What do you think of the Papergang boxes? Is it something you'd sign up to? I really enjoy them and despite this not being my favourite, it hasn't put me off the subscription box at all. Don't forget you can use my link if you'd like to sign up to help a girl out! For every two people who sign up, I get a free box. Here's the link if you're thinking about it.
