Getting Fit & Healthy

What Cat Says | Getting Fit & Healthy

This topic is new territory not just for my blog but for me too. I've never really been into fitness and in fact avoided it at all costs. I've always been quite comfortable in the skin I'm in but over the last year or so my body confidence has taken a hit and I've suddenly realised I haven't really been looking after my body. This post is going to be all about what's inspired or pushed me to finally look after my body, take an interest into my health and fitness and what I'm going to do about it. I hope you enjoy it and if you have any advice for me or posts to that might help, please leave it in the comments below. I would really appreciate any support!

What Inspired/Pushed Me To Make The Change

So I'll start with what has inspired/pushed me to start looking after my body. If you're a regular reader of my blog you'd have noticed that I've not posted very many outfits over the last year and a half. And honestly, it's because of body confidence. No one has said anything to spur this loss of confidence and nothing has really happened but a look in the mirror and realising that I'm losing my shape. Instead of doing anything about it a year and a half ago I've pretty much sat in the denial zone and it's only made things worse. But with the support of my loving boyfriend, reading some lovely fitness posts and subscribing to the likes of FitnessBlender.com on YouTube I've been inspired to finally so something about it and help myself.

Accepting My Problem

The first step was to accept this. Accept that I'm not happy with how I look, that I'm going to have to make a huge lifestyle change and give up my eating habits to replace them with new ones. It really sunk in yesterday when I was trying to find something to wear in this beautiful weather and everything either didn't fit or looked pretty awful on me because it was on the verge of not fitting. And after really looking in the mirror, I realised I was losing my hour glass figure I was always so happy with. My metabolism isn't what it used to be and that was another thing to accept but I believe I've gotten to this stage and I'm now ready to do something about it.

My Goal

I don't have a proper numerical goal. As in, I don't have a certain number of lbs or stone that I want to lose but in my head I keep thinking that I'd like to lose half a stone. In my head it's my ideal weight and it's realistically possible right now. My main goal is to regain my hour glass figure and get a flatter tummy to be able to wear most things confidently. And to be able to wear my favourite clothing items again. I fit in probably 25% of what I have in my wardrobe right now and I don't want to have to buy a new wardrobe of clothes because I gained weight. I also want to be able to start posting outfits on my blog confidently again rather than avoiding it like I have been.
It's not enough to just lose the weight for me either. Along with my goal to lose weight and regain my shape, I want to be a stronger and more energetic person after the weight loss too! This is something I'm not going to just stop when I get to my goal but something I'd like to carry on and maintain after my goal is reached.

So, What Am I Doing About It Now?

Healthy Eating

About a week ago I started tracking all my food on My Fitness Pal looking particularly at sugar content and saturated fats. I have a huge sweet tooth so my first goal is to kick all that out and replace it with natural sugars to beat the cravings. I'm not looking too much at calories but I am keeping an eye on them to ensure I'm burning more off than I am taking in. I haven't done a lot of research on what food to eat so I'm still learning but I'll adapt as I learn and I'm very lucky to have John who's good at advising me on what I should be eating or what I could as an alternative. Luckily I'm quite a healthy eater apart from the sweets so it shouldn't be too difficult. I'm also thinking about getting some whey protein for before and after workouts and to replace snacking.

Tracking Activity

As well as that, I've got my trusty Fitbit to help me track steps, calories burned and active minutes. I started my workout regime about a week ago and it's been so useful to see how hard I'm going when working out, how often I'm moving and it's great to keep track of workouts for the week as well as sleep. I've had my Fitbit since February and I absolutely love it and what's even better is that I've been able to link it with My Fitness Pal to keep track of my food there too!

Workout Plan

I decided I should be working out at least 4 times a week for a minimum of half an hour each day but with the weather warming up I want start adding in half an hour of running outdoors on top of that. I'm trying to alternate lower body, upper body, butt and thighs and finally abs. As well as losing the weight I've gained around my tummy and legs I want to become stronger and fitter in general. I'm going to make up a timetable with my new regime to motivate me to do them each day too.

As far as my plan goes, that's what I have set up for now and I'm hoping I can start sharing my journey here on the blog too. Please let me know if this is something you'd be interested in reading! I am writing this mostly for me but I want to make sure you'll like these posts too! :)
