3 Ways To Wear A Wrap Dress For Autumn

AD - gifted

It's officially autumn and wow-ee it's getting cold! Not only are the days are getting colder but the evenings are getting darker and you're beginning to consider whether it's appropriate to put the heating on yet. It's safe to say mine has been on a few times but I'm yet to set it up so that it turns on every day.

As well as having to warm up the home, I'm starting to warm up my wardrobe and to this day, I still struggle to figure out what to wear around this time of year. Long sleeves? Jumpers? Is it time to bring out the tights? The mornings are freezing and the afternoons are representative of a summer's morning still. I'm wondering when to put the summer pieces away and bring out all the knitwear but luckily, today, I'm collaborating with Lily Lulu Fashion to share with you three ways to style a summer piece of clothing for Autumn. I have this gorgeous polka-dotted wrap dress that is perfect for summer, nights out and also now, perfect for autumn and winter thanks to a little bit of layering.

A landscape photo edited to show all three ways I have styled a green frilled wrap dress with black velvet polka dots.

Way One: Over jeans and a t-shirt!?

I am standing with my right hand tucking my hair behind my wear and wearing a white t-shirt that says 'being kind since 1989' with a green polka dot frill wrap dress on top and blue skinny jeans underneath. I have white trainers on my feet with silk white bows on the back.

When thinking of ways to layer this dress for autumn, I took to Pinterest for inspiration and found a little trend I thought was quite interesting, quirky and fun. Layering a dress over one of my favourite looks: jeans and a classic tee seems a little odd until I put it together. Not only is this a fun look, but it's also a great way to showcase a gorgeous dress and keep the comfort of such a casual outfit. To be fair, I feel like you've got to be pretty bold or daring to wear this out. I love it and it's one I want to try soon but I think I need to think about where I'll wear it!

Way Two: Layered with a cropped jumper

I am standing against a white background wearing a green frill wrap dress with black polka dots that is a mid length. I am wearing a black knitted roll neck jumper over the dress that is cropped from the waist. I am wearing heeled black boots.

The first look I thought about when thinking about how to wear this wrap dress for autumn was to simply put a great piece of knitwear over it. I dug out this cropped roll neck jumper I have in my wardrobe which I thought would be great with this as it still shows off most of the dress. I think you could easily wear other jumpers with this. Something slouchy or cropped but still showing off the dress. To glam it up a little I added my favourite heeled boots (though a little muddy at the moment) and rolled up the sleeves - because it's not that cold yet.

Way Three: The dress over long sleeves

I am standing with my left arm holding my right. I am wearing a black ribbed long sleeve top under a green frill polka dot dress that is a mid length. I am wearing black boots with fluffy trim.

Last but not least, because it's most definitely my favourite look, is layering the dress over a simple long-sleeved top. It's a classic layered look that I wear a lot and I think most people do too or have tried before. I was even more inspired to show this as a way to wear after I saw a fab gal on Instagram wearing a gorgeous going-out style wrap dress with a t-shirt and trainers. I can't remember who it is and I'm kicking myself for not saving that gorgeous post because I love it.
The best bit about this look is that it's great with any shoe. I love it with boots, trainers and for going out you could wear some gorgeous heels.

So those are my three ways to wear a wrap dress for autumn! I hope you like them and they're somewhat inspiring. Lily Lulu has some amazing dresses that they're gorgeous alone as well as some amazing dresses that are perfect for layering in autumn. I'm not the best at transition outfits but I like to experiment with my looks and have a go every now and then to see what I come up with. I feel dresses are some of the best pieces to layer for autumn and are sometimes a lot more versatile! Way three has most definitely been my main go-to for my summer to autumn transition looks though. Have you been styling summer-wear for autumn? I'd love to see what you've been wearing and how you've styled it!
