My 30 Before 30 Bucket List

In about a year and a half I will be turning 30. Like many, there's a lot I'd like to do before I reach the big three-oh. Age is just a number and to me it doesn't mean much, but the milestone does give me a deadline date for when I'd like to complete, achieve and experience some things by. I'm not saying that if I don't complete them by the time I'm thirty I've missed my chance, but I'm hoping that this list will encourage and motivate me to make the most of now, and push myself to get ticking some things on my 30 before 30 bucket list.

Over the next year or so I'll be editing this post as I begin to tick some of these things off. I have cheated a little bit and popped some things on here that I have already achieved simply because they've always been on the paper list and I'm proud to say I've achieved them. Updates in italic and progress in will be in brackets, pink bold and italic.

  1. Buy a house - This has been on my 30 before 30 list forever. Buying a house has always been a my dream number one on my to-do list. John and I were both adamant we didn't want to rent and buying a house was so important to both of us. Being home owners became a reality 4 weeks ago when John and I finally moved into our new place. These four weeks have been very surreal for us but it's been amazing too and I'm so happy to have ticked this one off my bucket list! (DONE - 14.7.18)
  2. Buy a car - Right now I have a 2006 Mercedes C-Class. I've had the car for about 3 years now and before that it was my mum's car. It's now 12 years old and it's been pretty beat up over the years. We've had it since it was about a year old and it's done us proud but I think soon it might be time I bought myself a new motor and I have my heart set on a Fiat 500 one day. This weekend, I finally went out and bought myself my dream Fiat 500 in Smooth Mint. It's everything I hoped it would be and I'm so excited to have my dream car! I'm so happy to have finally done this, got my dream car and have it ticked off my bucket list. (DONE - 10.2.19)
  3. Visit Kew Gardens - This has been on my to-do list for such a long time. I really want to visit the gardens and experience it all for myself. I also want to take lots of beautiful pictures there too. I've heard it's such an amazing place and I've unfortunately missed a couple of chances to go through brand collaborations. I will go before I'm thirty, and if not. I'll go for my thirtieth birthday!
  4. See the Warner Bros. Studio Tour - The Making of Harry Potter - I almost did this for my last birthday but unfortunately couldn't go ahead because it'd all been booked up on the day I wanted to go. I've been dying to go since it opened and I'm only a forty-five minute drive away from the studios too. I still don't know why I haven't been but it needs to happen soon! The other day, I went to the studio tour with my best friends from work. I nearly cried when I saw the great hall and it was just amazing as I expected. I blogged all about it and so happy I get to tick this off my list! (DONE - 26.7.19)
  5. Volunteer or donate to a dog's home - Last year John and I donated a bunch of stuff to our local dog's home.We both talked about potentially volunteering at the dog's home at some point and if that isn't possible just yet, donating again to make sure all the dogs are happy and safe. Dogs are hugely important in our lives and if we can do anything to help them, then we'd love to.
  6. Go to Portugal again - It's been a while since I went back to Portugal to see my family. In fact I think the last time I went was two years ago when I went to meet my cousin's baby girl and see my dad. I think a visit is long overdue. Not only am I missing my family but I'm missing the area too. It's such a beautiful part of the world and it brings back so many great memories!
  7. Reach a place where I'm happy with my body image - I originally wrote that I'd like to reach my target weight but then I thought about it again and decided I'd like to be at a place where I'm happy with the way I look and feel in my body, rather than hitting a specific weight. Firstly because hitting a weight target won't really make me happy but finally looking in the mirror and feeling a wave of happiness and confidence in my clothing would.
  8. Do an animal feeding experience - I've already had one experience where John and I visited penguins but I really want to do one of these feed the animal experiences. Whether it's a penguin, meerkat or monkeys. I'd love to do one of these someday!
  9. Have a spa day - Spa days are the best way to switch off and have some you time. Just recently I had an lovely spa day with my bestie Ana. Our siblings gave us a afternoon tea spa day experience for Christmas and we finally booked it. It was a lovely experience and something I've had on my list for a while. I'd love to do another one though. (DONE - 8/8/18)
  10. Run 10k -  I've run a 5k but I'm sure I can run a 10k sometime. I'm an on and off runner but running is something I enjoy and think I can get back into quickly. Whether I run 10k for myself or do it for charity, I definitely want to do it some time before I'm 30.
  11. Paint something big that will hang somewhere in our house - I really want to paint something amazing for our home and put it somewhere prominent like the living room, corridor or the landing. I don't know what it will be yet but I will paint something and it'll be amazing.
  12. Go to a musical in London - I'd absolutely love to go to the theatre one day and see something like Wicked, Aladdin, The Lion King or Mamma Mia. I don't mind which one. I just want to say I've been and have the experience!
  13. Visit the Bubba Gump restaurant in London - Me and my brother love seafood and unfortnately our other halves don't so much. Sometime in the next year we've decided that we'll take a brother-sister trip to London and eat at Bubba Gump. It's something we've both always wanted to do so why not do it together right? For my 30th birthday my little brother bought me a voucher so that we can finally go! It;s not before I'm 30 but at least it's planned for the coming year! (PENDING - 20.12.19)
  14. Try being vegetarian for a month - I'm a huge animal lover and I've cut out pork and lamb from my diet completely. Now, I only eat poultry and I occasionally have beef. I know the idea of 'trying' to be a vegetarian can annoy some people but I'm genuinely curious and want to see how I handle being a vegetarian. I want to see how I do and use my experience to decide if I can adapt my diet to be a vegetarian from then on. I might not have managed to go completely vegetarian for a month but I have been eating vegetarian and vegan meals more often than ever before. I don't think I could do 100%vegetarian for a month but I have about 2/3 days of the week where all my meals are vegetarian!
  15. Achieve my next blogging milestone - My next milestone is really to improve traffic to my blog. I think these days it's less about the number of followers on BlogLovin' but more about statistics like traffic and readers coming from social media sites and in general. I'd really like my blog to be more popular whether it is through the increase of followers on my social media or through my statistics.
  16. Start painting/drawing again and be consistent with it - Alongside wanting to paint a big picture for my house I want to start painting or drawing again in general. I'm urging to be inspired again and be a consistent artist. Recently I bought some watercolour brushes so I can explore watercolour again. I remember how much I loved it. Watch this space, I hope to be sharing some art soon. Over the last year, I have started drawing and painting more and more. I really enjoy it and I'm practising as often as I can, as long as I have the time to. It's been really lovely falling back in love with drawing and painting and puts a big smile on my face. (DONE - 20.12.19)
  17. Learn how to make the amazing pastel de nata - Me and my mum have tried this a few times but I truly want to make a successful pastel de nata. The portuguese custard tart is hard to perfect but I don't want it to be perfect, I just want it to be successful and taste good!
  18. Relaunch my blog with a new look and for a fresh start - I'm desperate to make my blog a happy place again and I usually feel super inspired by a fresh new look. I feel like this space needs a new start and maybe getting a new blog layout is the way forward. I'm toying with the idea that I might need to finally move over to Wordpress too but I'm not sure about paying to use it just yet! Either way, What Cat Says needs a fresh start very soon! In August, I finally bought my blog a new look. I know I said I would move over to Wordpress but at the moment I can't justify the cost. I really like my new blog look and it works for what I want and need right now. (DONE - 20.8.18)
  19. Get a pet - I'm already missing my dog and John's missing his too and I'm already working on John to adopt a little fuzzy. Nothing too big and unfortunately not a dog because it wouldn't be fair whilst we're at work. Something like a rabbit? This is one of the things I didn't think would happen if I'm being totally honest but John bought me my little hamster Cracker for my birthday a month early. I didn't expect to be getting a hamster when I wrote this post but after some thought and research, a hamster would be the perfect pet. He has been the perfect pet too. He's a gorgeous little white and peach hamster with the most adorable personality. I love him so much and I'm so happy to have him in my life. (DONE - 1.12.18)
  20. Join a gym - I've been putting off the idea of the gym for a long time but I've recently learned that I'd be more active somewhere that isn't home. I think because I'll be paying for it and because it's not home, I'd actually work out for longer than 15 minutes. I really want to be a healthier person and I'd like to try the gym for the first time in my life.I finally joined the gym! I'm terrified of it still but I think it's something I need to get over. I don't know how I'll do with it but I joined it and intend on using it as often as I can. (DONE - 28.8.18)
  21. Host dinner at my house for friends and family - We've half done this one already but I'd like to host a proper dinner at my house one day for friends or family. I want to show them how well I can cook and host. I've never done it before but I think I'd do a good job! This was a lovely one to have completed but I finally have had all my friends and family over for dinner or lunch. I really love hosting even if it's a little bit stressful. I feel so proud of myself when it's all done and people have enjoyed my food. (DONE - 22.12.18)
  22. Read all the books I own (and more) - I have about 10 books on my shelf that I haven't yet read and they've all been sitting there for months waiting to have their pages turned. I need to read them, especially because there are other books I'd like to buy and read. But I won't until the others are read!
  23. Make the perfect two-tiered cake - I've always made cakes but never a successful two-tiered cake. I'd love to make a well decorated cake with two tiers and have someone say "where did you buy this?". You know, that sort of cake!
  24. Visit the infamous Doughnut Time shop in London - I'm a huge doughnut fan and if there's anywhere I'd like to go and have desserts at that I haven't already been, it's this place! I really want to go, and I will one day. Very soon I hope! I just so happened to manage to go by chance one day on my way to a blogging event! I went with Franny and Claire and I'm so glad I had the chance to and finally tick this off my bucket list! (DONE - 27.11.19)
  25. Grow my own fruit and veg and use it in my cooking - Growing my own fruit and veg would be amazing! It's something I'm really looking forward to getting into next year when the spring comes along. I'm not much of a gardener because of bugs and stuff but I reckon I could get myself a little greenhouse and grow me some carrots, tomatoes, strawberries and more. I really want to grow sunflowers too but more for aesthetics than for the seeds!
  26. Improve my core strength - As well as joining a gym and being happy with my body, I want to have great core strength. I want to be able to do have a great sense of balance, do hand stands and all sorts. I have zero core strength right now so it's something I'd like to have one day soon.
  27. Go to a Bounce class - A little cheeky because I've already done this one but since I saw an advert on Facebook for Bounce classes, I wanted to attend. When I was living with my parents I attended the class for two months but I haven't yet got back into it. It's such a fun class and mixes three of my favourite things along with something I know I need to do: dancing, music and bouncing with exercise! (DONE)
  28. Go to Wales - Realistically I have a year and a half to complete this list and it's a lot to do in that time. So when I was thinking of places I'd like to travel I decided that Wales would be one I'd be able to realistically do in the next year or so. Wales is a drive away and so I'd love to go and finally see the country for myself.
  29. Try to make a mirror glaze cake - Another cake I'd like to have a go at is the mirror glaze cake. It looks so good and I always wondered if I could master this. I know it takes a lot of time and technical skill but I think I could do it!
  30. Buy a makeup palette you've always wanted to get but never doI always look at lovely palettes from the likes of Morphe and Jeffree Star. I really like them but I don't buy them because they're £40 and for some reason I resist the urge to buy eyeshadow palettes that look amazing and I know I'll use from them because it's expensive to me. One day I want to order one I wouldn't normally get myself as a treat. Or maybe two. We'll see. Ticked this one off without realising it too! I bought the Jeffree Star x Shane Dawson palette as a treat when it launched. The 45-minute queue and trouble to get on the website was worth it because I managed to get one palette for me and the other for my sister! (DONE - 1.11.19)
