What Cat & John Did | Date Night Box - Wine & Wishes

As I may have mentioned before, John and I love a good date night. We love doing our usual things, but when we want to mix things up a little bit, we love doing some out of the box stuff. Funny that, considering this date night from Date Night that I'm sharing with you today was all IN a box, but totally out of OUR box. Haha... Such a sad joke. I'm sorry... Shall I get onto telling you about the box now?

But Cat! What is this Date Night Box? Well, Date Night Box is a soon to launch subscription box made especially for couples! With subscription boxes becoming a huge trend at the moment, I love that there are so many for couples. This one has definitely impressed me from the minute it arrived at my door in a beautiful black magnetic box... The packaging was making it win already and I hadn't even opened it yet!

Inside The Box:

Inside the box was the CUTEST thing EVER. A little personalised note to me and John. I pretty much squealed with excitement when I saw this and took my time to read it well seeing how much effort went into this box already. Whilst reading the note, I discovered it was a wine tasting date night for me and John. Now.... We don't like wine. Never have we been wine tasting or chosen wine ever, but we were excited because it was something new and something exciting. You never know... We might like wine after this.
With the note were two activities I was more than excited to find out about for our date night, but I only gave it a whizz through so I could read it with John properly on our date night. That way we'd both be finding out about it properly at the same time.

Also in the box were a few goodies to help us out with our date including a little box of chocolates, a box with five cute tubes of wine in the prettiest box and a 'grow your own wine' set as a date night memoir! Cute.

Living apart, we found it a little difficult to plan our date night but with a weekend away together so soon, we bought the date night box along with us to enjoy at our hotel where we knew no one would have to drive anywhere after. All about the safety us!
We went out for a lovely dinner together and after enjoying that and a few drinks out, we went back to the hotel and continued date night with this for a twist. What was annoying was that the hotel we were staying at provided only plastic cups... Not for wine tasting, but it was all we had! It looked quite funny, I must say.

The Date Night!

So for this part of our date, I set everything out for us into our two activities and showed John everything we had properly. Our first activity was the wine tasting, so we were straight in there with the contents of the box! We had score cards to rate our wines with and even learned how to taste wine with the tasting tips guide. It was really useful and actually, we could see how different wines smelled and tasted by swirling and smelling in a particular order and all sorts. Not being knowledgeable in the world of wine, we took a blind guess at quite a lot of it. I said everything smelt woody pretty much and John was a bit more serious noting down some words I became jealous I didn't think of first! We had a lot of fun with our first task, discussing what we were tasting as really relaxing whilst we were doing it. It took quite a while as we tasted each of the wines too which was nice. We liked that it took longer than we thought it would and that it was a lengthy date night!

Though we don't like wine, it was interesting and upon reading the information about each wine hidden in our first envelope we realised we were okay wine tasters for first timers getting something between us. We learned we will never be red wine people and could tolerate white wine as long as it was a good one! I may have to add a little 7up but I could still probably drink more wine now. We learned what wines we liked best and what we didn't of the five, what we would pick again and chatted about the fact we'd still prefer a spirit mixed with a soft drink really if we had the choice... mainly because I'm a fussy one and John's a whisky man!

After the first part of our date we cleansed our palettes with these yummy chocolates that were in the box too with the cutest bees on the top! They were filled with the yummiest honey centres and I felt bad that one had melted on the way over in my bag. John was sweet and ate that one. We enjoyed this whilst I set up our second and last activity which was going to be a quiz...

The quiz was fun! I read out the questions whilst we jotted answers down on our tiny cards. We were a bit silly and didn't notice at the bottom of our question card said that there would be a prize for the winner so we weren't being very competitive like usual! It was only when we answered all our questions and revealed the answers in the envelope that we saw the prize of some cute little wish tickets.
Though not a fan of alcohol, I somehow won the quiz which I was quite smug about. Hehe! It was all in the name of fun, and actually we learned a couple of cool wine facts during our quiz so aren't we both winners? No... Okay! Teehee.

Date Night Box Verdict:
John and I were pretty impressed with this box and how lovely it looked. The packaging was on point with a simple black box and very high quality as were the products inside the box. The wine we were given to try was a lovely selection and looked like very quality wines, especially in their packaging. We really loved the experience of wine tasting as it was something we'd never tried before and though it isn't something we may do again, we know we've done it and we can tick it off our list! If you were thinking about subscribing to this box, I would definitely recommend it down to quality and originality. I'm not sure on price at the moment as it's still in the launching stages but I'm expecting it to be around the £30 mark down to the contents and quality. I am also not sure on how the subscription service will work either, but I will update this post when I do find out.
Overall, it really is a lovely box, and we can't wait to see what they will be doing for their next one!

What do you think of this box? Would you subscribe to Date Night Box?

  1. Aww this is great! Sometimes after so long it's just hard to think up fun dates, so I love that this was created. Makes me wish I thought of it first! The packing really does look lovely.
