What Cat Says - Updated Desk Tour | Student/Work Ready

I know what you're going to say. WOW. Cat that's a bit cluttered! and a bit colourful... Isn't that a bit too much? NO. No it's not, and actually colours inspire me. Having nice, bright and colourful things inspire me to live a happy and beautiful life, and for the next year it'll inspire me to work hard and play hard! Yeah, I have a lot of stuff. But this is the best place for it at the moment. I have a reason for why everything is where it is on my desk. But yes, if you like tours, stationery or just being nosy, click on to read more!

The Desktop
So, my desktop is quite limited in space thanks to my shelving and other things. But to be honest, all I need is space for my laptop and some books when I'm working. I have some sweets in a jar for when a sugar rush is needed, or as a rewarding system and I have my super cool mouse mat that I can use to plan out my week when needed. I do have a calendar on my door, but I like organising my week and having it right in front of me to look at.

Err, Cat? What's under your shelves? Well, that would be my favourite palettes for easy access. They don't exactly fit well in my makeup box without being in the way, so I thought I would make good use of that negative space. I've also got a little box of pins, paperclips, crocodile clips and post it notes under there for my corkboard.

The Bottom Shelf
I think this is my favourite part of my desk right now. I've made full use of my DIY sharpie mugs by using them as pen and pencil holders just as I planned. I did get too scared to bake them, so these aren't baked just yet. Maybe I'll brave it another time. Anyway, these are out here because it's so much easier than pulling them out of a drawer or a pencil case every time I need them. It's so much easier to be able to reach out and have it right in front of me. So thus, everything is out and ready for easy access!

I can't forget to mention the two cutest jars on my shelf. The first is a jar I reused to hold my neon paperclips in, which I think looks so cute! And the second is a sharpener I bought from Tiger! I love Tiger, it has the cutest stationery bits and it's so cheap. I'll definitely be buying more stationery from there when I need it.

Further to the left of my desk, I have yet another Tiger purchase which is this pink wire basket. I bought it with no purpose a few months ago and now it holds my jars of fizzy pops and some extra stationery bits including my hello kitty mouse. My regular looking grey mouse broke so this is all I have, but it does the same thing so you know!
I've of course got one of my first teacher related stationery things I was given when I finished my last job which is this cute 'well done' stamp. I can't wait to start using it to mark books! :)

The Top Shelf
The top shelf is a little more decorative as well as having some serious essentials. The main thing on this shelf are my new teacher books. As you can see I bought four that I'm hoping will help guide me quite well through my teacher training. I've also got my Bando diary for when the year starts, my current read and my favourite book when I need to smile. Because the two bottom books are so big, stacking them was a better option than lining them up. Having them out and right there will remind me to use them and look at them when I need it. They'll be the equivalent of my bibles for the next year.

One Christmas, John bought me the cutest light up bunny. I know there are going to be SO many late nights where I'm marking/studying whatever I'm doing... But I'll be doing it. I thought it would be lovely to use this when I need to just turn the lights off and have something a little easier on the eyes. It lets out such a beautiful warm light which I know will be a huge comfort when I just need to finish that last thing. Don't mind the hairband around it's neck... I just know I'll lose it otherwise and it's my favourite.
I've also got a frame that means a lot to me displayed to inspire me too. It was a present when I finished my last job too, and it sits beautifully next to another lovely gift. That teddy bear is just too adorable ♥

 The Left Side
Excuse the pun, it being the final side of the desk to share with you! Ha! So on this side of my desk, I have my less essential things. I have my makeup brushes for easy access when I'm rushing in the morning, some jewellery storage and my to-read books. These are the books I just still haven't read for some reason. I've had Girl Online for almost two years unread! I'm so bad when it comes to reading books, because I'm always blogging, working or now playing World of Warcraft. But I plan on making sure I have some no electronics and work time every night to relax, so reading will (hopefully) become a thing again.

I've also got one of my favourite photos in the prettiest frame just in front of my mirror. I love having a photo of me and John on display and this one takes me back to some really happy memories. It's also pretty hilarious considering I'm cradling a parrot pretending to be a baby! It was from a show they were doing at the hotel we stayed in in Tenerife. I thought I blogged that holiday, but that was before the What Cat Did series began. LOL, yonks ago now. But I do have a post with some outfits I wore on that holiday here ♥
I've also got a mini shopping basket just out of that last shot with my extra pencil cases in. I know I'll be Little Miss Pencil Cases now! I love me a cute pencil case.

The wall
I almost forgot the wall! Oops! So this is the first time I've put something on the wall in my room. With those special little command strips I've managed to hang my DIY corkboard up. I made this in a short half hour the other day, maybe even less. It's such a great way to display notes, reminders, to do lists or shopping lists. I can't wait to get some full use out of it. What's even better is that putting this up with command strips means I'm not ruining the paint or the wall behind it and I can move it whenever I'd like to!

So that's it! My updated desk tour. I hope you like it? You can check out my last desk tour here. It's a lot less cluttered but it's a little boring now to me too! I'd love to know if you'd like to see my corkboard DIY. I don't have photos of the DIY in progress but I can show you some photos and close ups with instructions on how to actually make it. Yay or nay?
