#VikingArtyParty

 

On Saturday I went to what was the most fun event I've ever been to! In terms of blogging events, The #VikingArtyParty was creative, productive and super social, in the loveliest venue, setting and atmosphere! The Viking Arty Party consisted of three pretty cool crafty workshops: Block Printing, Calligraphy and Origami! Carry on reading to find out what we made and how it all went!







 

I attended the event with my good friend and fellow blogger Ana. We were both running a little bit late, but it was okay because we got there just in time to get started on our first activity! We were given little stickers with our name and twitter handle on just so everybody knew who everybody was and then popped into the blue group as we were set out into three groups for a little organisation (I love organisation). There were snacks and drinks, a seating area, three tables for the three workshops and it was all set out so beautifully.

 

 

Our first activity was block printing with the people at Tea & Crafting. We were given a selection of acrylic paints, sponges, an acrylic block and piece of firmer sponge to make the block from and a file to print our design on!

I wasn't as creative as I could have been with this activity and I just stuck with triangles because I was inspired by one of the images they had laid out for us to look at. Lots of the other girls made some seriously amazing designs and I loved what they did. I really liked mine too though. It was really minimalistic and I love a bit of tessellation too! Inspired by Santorini, I went for blue with flashes of orange and green.

 

I got a little bit messy doing this activity but I had so much fun with it! I loved the repetitive patterns, I loved the printing and I loved how relaxing it all was too. It was also lovely making something useful too. I will although say, we printed on a laminated file organiser so it was a little hard to print on and on my way home I rubbed off some of the paint. Of course, you wouldn't be carrying this around with you so it's not much of a bother but I had a few missing triangles when I got home. Oops!

 

 

Once we finished our first activity, we had a little break and ate something before moving onto our next activity which was calligraphy with A L'Aise. I absolutely love calligraphy so I was really excited for this one! When we got to the table and sat down, we were explained how to hold a calligraphy pen and use one too. I learned quite a bit about calligraphy that day and now I really feel like taking it up as a new hobby!

 

 

We spent our time practising calligraphy letters and honestly it was so calming and lovely to do! I loved concentrating on it and finding a flow, and we had a giggle and a half about our lettering! We were saying things like "that's a happy h" or "oh, you're going to love y"! It might be one of those 'you-had-to-be-there' moments. I struggled a bit with the uppercase letters, but I really want to practise them now, so I'm going to give it another go at home. I really want to perfect this one - even though I got a bit messy with the ink as you can see. Again - oops!

 

After another short break, we moved onto our final activity and for the blue group, it was origami with Samuel Tsang. I always loved origami so I was really interested to see what we'd be doing and learning about origami!

 

 

 

First of all we were shown how to create a simple, yet super useful origami envelope. With one piece of paper, no cuts and no glue we quickly learned how to make one for ourselves and a little history behind the envelope and then about origami in general. My favourite thing he showed us was a little origami squirrel which I really want to attempt to make!

 

He then showed us how to make a paper crane. We learned all about the symbolism of a paper crane and the belief that folding 1000 paper cranes can grant wishes. It was lovely really. He showed us lots of origami animals and things people had made big and small, how origami has saved lives and how it can calm a person too (plugging his new book too - hehe!). We then made a paper crane of our own, and this one below is my one which I was pretty proud of!

 

 

The time at this event flew by oh so quickly! I couldn't believe it when the end had come because I enjoyed it that much. It was lovely meeting all the bloggers and having a chat with everybody, as well as doing something creative and productive at the same time. During the times we were sat down doing things we all got chatting about our designs, our blogs and life in general. It was lovely really.

 



 

I'd like to thank Viking and Search Laboratory for giving me the opportunity to attend this event because it was honestly the best event I've been to! I had so much fun and I really took a lot away from the experience including a little more confidence in myself. I also really loved the goody bag we all received which I can't wait to get into. We got plain mugs and pens to get creative on them with! I'll leave that for another post though... I hope everyone else who went had a lovely time! It was lovely meeting you all :) ♥
