So I've been a little obsessed with eBay dupes recently, and though the product we're looking at today isn't essentially a dupe to any products I know of, I feel like it's one of those alternative products if that make sense. Today we're going to be looking at this silicone make up brush cleaner I bought for £2.29 on eBay! I used it for the first time yesterday and I thought I could tell you how I got on with it.

On first impressions, I was excited about using this. I don't have any make up cleaning tools so I've been using the palm of my hand all this time, but as beauty enthusiasts we all know how that goes. Your hand ends up going really numb and actually you just need a little extra friction/texture to get those hard to reach places in your brush. With this I expected to see better and cleaner results in my brushes, and I hoped for it to make my brush cleaning routine a little easier and maybe a little more often thanks to it's ease.

I tested the cleaner out on a range of brushes using warm water and a foaming cleanser I like to use to clean my brushes with. I tested it on brushes as big as my contour brush, a middle sized blusher brush, to fluffy eyeshadow blending brushes and my more finely packed brushes like my angled brush. What surprised me was how the results from each brush varied and I found this to be a lot better and easier for smaller brushes than bigger brushes. In fact, I won't be using this for my bigger face brushes again and keeping this cleaner strictly for eyeshadow brushes.

When I was cleaning the bigger brushes, I could see barely any product being removed from the brush. In fact, I swapped over to my hand after a while to get a bigger surface to clean the brush on and saw more product leave the brush that way. As amazing as this is for my eyeshadow brushes, it is way to small for anything bigger than my Real Techniques Bold Metal Tapered Blusher Brush.

The smaller brushes were a dream to clean. Being smaller the ridges and textures were just the right size to get into the brushes removing deep dirt. I was very impressed with this, and my brushes looked cleaner than I've ever managed before. Whether it was a fluffy brush or not, it did a great job and I'm looking forward to cleaning the rest with this later on.

Overall, I love this product - but only for smaller brushes like eyeshadow brushes. That - I absolutely loved it for and it did make cleaning those brushes a lot easier, but I was quite disappointed about not being able to really clean my bigger brushes. With the size of the cleaner I should have expected it, but I was optimistic. It's really easy to hold and it has definitely made cleaning the smaller brushes a lot easier and made me think about investing in a silicone mat for those bigger brushes. That would make it so much easier in the future.

If you're looking for something to clean small brushes with, I totally recommend this. But in all honesty, I was torn between this and a mat and went for the cheaper option. I'll be investing in this mat soon on eBay. I think it looks great and would probably be great for all sized brushes. When I get this, I'd love to review that too. Would you like to see that?
