5 Things To Make Yourself Feel Better When You're Sick

5 Things To Make Yourself Feel Better When You're Sick

It's the last Sunday of my week off and I'm gutted because I've been sick solidly for the last two weeks and I've not been able to really enjoy my week off. I've been doing absolutely everything in my power to get rid of whatever this is I have including staying in bed on a beautiful day like this! All that said, this week I've found there are five things that I always seem to do to make myself feel better when I'm not well. I hope that if you're ever unwell, you can think of these five things and see if they make you feel any better too!
  • Take a nice hot bath or shower.
It's pretty simple right? No matter how unwell I am, nothing makes me feel better than a shower. It feels like you're washing all those yucky germs away. Wash everything: your body, your hair, your face and when you're out put on some fresh comfy clothes to chill in. It's like an instant pick-me-up when you're feeling super clean on a sick day.
  • Change your bed sheets.
I can guarantee that most of us spend a lot more time in our beds when we're unwell. I feel like I'm harbouring a world of germs in my bed when I'm ill so no matter how weak or awful I'm feeling I make the effort to change my sheets. New sheets just like a shower make you feel instantly a lot cleaner. And on top of that it will make you're environment just that little bit friendlier to you having fresh clean sheets to sleep in.
  • Eat a Kiwi.
Kiwi is one of the most healthiest fruits you can eat and actually - this tip is courtesy of my boyfriend John. Since day one, John has always told me about how great kiwis are for you when you're sick. And since then anytime one of us has been unwell, we eat kiwis to make us feel better. Kiwis are full of vitamins and antioxidants. I also read that they're proven to protect against things like asthma, heart problems and IBS. I'm suffering from a chest infection right now and I've already had a couple of kiwis already to help fight this awful cough.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
This one's pretty much a given, but everyone knows the benefit of drinking lots of healthy fluids when you're unwell. I've been drinking as much water as possible along with warm cups of tea and those Naked smoothie drinks. The warm tea has been helping soothe my throat, the water helping flush out all the nastiness and the smoothie's have been aiding in giving my body the right stuff to aid in my recovery.
  • Make yourself a comfy spot to recover in.
The last thing you need to do is be active and busy and making matters worse - take a day off if you really need to and relax. Build yourself a den, or make yourself a comfy spot in your sofa or on your bed where you'll be able to relax and keep activity to a minimum. I've turned my bed into a blanket and cushion filled den with everything I might need to relax and recuperate beside me. The only time I'll need to get up is to go to the bathroom, stretch, get food, drink or medicines.
Leave a comment if you've got a feel better tip of your own to share! I'd love to read them and try them out for myself.

  2. I had a horrible cold in May and I found eating kiwi did help. I also love drinking really cold orange juice when I'm ill. Great post lovely!

  3. Wow, I agree with all of these. I change my bedsheets whenever I need to feel better, whether it be a cold or just feeling down! It always makes me feel completely better. Baths are amazing during a sickness as well. I remember my very first week of being away at college and I got a cold - I wished SO badly that I could fly back home just to take a nice, hot bath.

  4. Wow, I didn't know kiwi's were THAT good for you! *Buys loads of kiwi's regardless of whether being ill or not* I too like to have a nice shower or bath and pamper my body a bit, it instantly makes me feel slightly better as well as a fresh clean bed to jump into. I've been try to drink a lot more lately too! Taking a 1.5 litre bottle with me to work and making sure I've drank the majority of it before I've gone home and refill it when I get home about half way so I've had enough fluids in my body. When I'm ill I like to stay in bed and try not to do anything, except get some blogging done, as I literally can't do nothing all day regardless of how ill I am! Good post Cat! :D
